What Makes a Good CBD Product?
Interested in trying a CBD product, but unsure where to start? We understand it can be confusing with all the contradicting information out there. When you're looking into CBD it can become overwhelming so we're here to help you determine what to look for in a CBD product.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the cannabinoids from the Cannabis sativa plant. The other popular cannabinoid is Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. CBD is similar to the endocannabinoids that are naturally produced by the body, which means that it can help with pain relief, sleep, and some cognitive functions. THC is also similar, but is a psychoactive compound which causes the “high” effect.
There are three types of CBD types: Full-spectrum that contains CBD and small amounts of THC (has to be less than .3%), isolate that contains only CBD, and broad-spectrum that contains CBD with other cannabinoids but no THC.
While the CBD industry continues to grow and the market becomes more crowded, there are a few things to look for when choosing a CBD product.
Things That Make CBD Products Stand Out
When it became legal to sell hemp, CBD really took off and was put into so many products (some that are awesome and some that just don’t make sense). Even though CBD products are fairly new, it’s just like any other product you might be considering. With any product, especially products you consume, it’s important to look at ingredients carefully and ensure that the product has gone through safety tests.
- Clear Label for CBD Amount - This might be a simple one, but you’ll want to look for transparency from the company to consumers for what you’re getting. The label should clearly state how much CBD is in the product. The label should also show whether the product is full spectrum (contains THC) or if it’s THC-free. Also make sure you’re not wasting money on a CBD product that doesn’t actually have CBD in it. Some products out there only include ingredients like hemp seed oil or Cannabis sativa seed oil so they’re not actual CBD products. Hemp seed oil and similar ingredients can still be included, but make sure the Supplement Facts Panel has ‘CBD’ or ‘Hemp Extract’ before you buy.
- Third-Party Testing - Look for products that go through safety testing from a separate company or lab. Good CBD companies should have a Certificate of Analysis for the individual batches of their products that are easily available or can be found by reaching out to the company directly. Products that have a Certificate of Analysis have gone through testing to verify their chemical analysis and the quantity of CBD. This means that you can rest assured that the product you’re using is safe and that the label matches the product.
- Minimal THC - CBD products are required to have less than .3% THC. While we do sell CBD oils with THC in them (called Full Spectrum), these oils only have less than .3% THC. We also offer THC free products for those that want to use CBD for sleep, pain relief, and other wellness benefits without getting that “high” feeling that THC products produce.
